Day One | Biology
Owl Pellet Dissection
Children will learn about the unique anatomy, habitat, and eating habits of barn owls. They will then dissect owl pellets and identify bones found within.
Lifecycles of Insects
Children will learn about the lifecycle shared by insects and discuss each stage. They will then use classroom materials to depict the various stages of the insect of their choice (ex. spiders, butterflies, beetles, ants, and bees).
Day Two | Physics
Children will learn about Newton’s Laws of Motion. They will then put it to use by creating straw rockets using classroom supplies.
Origami Jumping Frogs
Children will learn about potential and kinetic energy. They will then make origami frogs that jump.
Day Three | Space
Children will learn about the relative sizes of the planets. They will then use their knowledge to create model solar systems out of a variety of materials.
Solar System Mural
Children will use their knowledge about the planets and work collaboratively to create a mural of the solar system to be displayed in the museum.
Day Four | Chemistry
Children will learn about the reaction between oil and water and then put it to the test by creating lava lamps in the classroom!
Children will learn what a Polymer is and how chemical reactions change state because of certain ingredients. They will then put it to use by creating their very own slime.
Day Five | Engineering
Children will learn about structural engineering before using a set number of popsicle sticks and tape to plan then build the strongest bridge.
Children will learn about towers before using a set number of various materials to create the tallest tower they can that stands on its own.
